TL;DR — what this page is

A single hub of downloadable Safety Data Sheets (PDFs) plus a full, sortable spec table for all six Enola Gaye smoke bombs in the Shutter Bombs catalog: EG25, WP40-D, TP40, Gender Reveal WP40, WP40, and Twin Vent II.

Key facts that apply to every product: cool-burning colored smoke (no open flame), wire-pull or top-pull ignition, 99.5% biodegradable formula, UN hazard class 1.4S, 18+ only, and outdoor use only. Burn times range from 25 to 90 seconds. Always wear gloves and eye protection, keep a ~2 meter clearance, and never use indoors or in enclosed spaces.

⚠️ Outdoor use only — never indoors. These devices burn hot at the vent and release a large volume of smoke. Never ignite them inside a home, vehicle, tent, garage, or any enclosed or confined space. Smoke can linger and irritate the lungs, and indoor use is a fire and smoke-alarm hazard.

Plain-English Safety & Handling Guide

The PDFs above are the official, detailed reference. Here's the short version in everyday language — read it before you light anything.

How they work

  • A pull-ring igniter starts a slow-burning smoke mix; the heat sublimates a colored dye that you see as the plume.
  • There's no open flame and the body stays cool enough to hold with gloves — but the vent itself is hot, so never cover or point it at anyone.
  • Wire-pull models ignite by pulling the ring firmly out to the side; the TP40 pulls straight up from the top.

What's in the smoke

  • The visible smoke is mostly condensed colored dye plus water vapor, with small amounts of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and trace combustion by-products — the same family of gases any small fire produces.
  • It's considered non-toxic in open air, but like any smoke it can irritate the eyes and airway and make you cough.
  • People with asthma or other respiratory conditions should stay well clear of the plume.

Before you ignite

  • 18+ only. Outdoors only, in open air, never in a confined space.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection. Keep roughly 2 meters of clearance from people, pets, and anything flammable.
  • Check the wind so smoke blows away from your subject, crowd, and roads.
  • Don't carry lit or unlit devices in your pockets, and keep them out of direct sun and away from fuel or heat sources.

Staining & surfaces

  • The drifting smoke generally won't stain unless the device is held within about 30 cm (1 ft) of a surface or fabric.
  • Hold it at arm's length and keep it moving for the cleanest result; protect light-colored clothing and porous surfaces just in case.

If something goes wrong (first aid)

  • Inhaled too much smoke: move to fresh air, loosen tight clothing, rest and keep warm; get medical advice if symptoms don't settle.
  • Skin contact / minor burn: cool under clean running water for at least 10 minutes; seek medical help for anything serious.
  • Eyes: rinse with clean water and avoid rubbing; see a doctor if irritation continues. Eye protection prevents most of this.

Storage & disposal

  • Store in the original packaging in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight — not above ~50°C and away from fuel, gas, or other hazards.
  • Used & cooled devices can go in normal household waste once completely cold.
  • A dud that didn't fire? Don't try to re-ignite it. Soak it fully in water for a couple of days before disposal, or return it to us.

Safety FAQ

Are colored smoke bombs toxic?

In open outdoor air they're considered non-toxic — the smoke is mostly condensed dye and water vapor. That said, it's still smoke: it can irritate your eyes and lungs and make you cough, so don't stand in the plume, and keep anyone with asthma or breathing issues well clear.

Can I use a smoke bomb indoors?

No. Every product on this page is rated for outdoor use only. Indoors the smoke has nowhere to go, the vent is a fire risk near fabrics and ceilings, and you'll likely set off smoke alarms. Use them in open air with room overhead.

Will the smoke stain my clothes or the ground?

Generally no — the drifting smoke won't stain unless the device is held very close (within ~30 cm) to a surface. Hold it at arm's length, keep it moving, and protect light or porous surfaces to be safe.

Do they produce a flame?

No open flame, and the casing stays cool enough to hold with gloves. The vent where the smoke escapes does get hot, so never cover it or aim it at people, pets, or anything flammable.

How far should people stand back?

Keep roughly 2 meters (about 6 ft) of clearance between the device and people, pets, vehicles, and anything that can catch fire. Position your subject so the wind carries smoke away from them.

What's the age requirement?

You must be 18 or older to buy and use these. Never let a minor handle or ignite one.

What do I do with a dud that didn't ignite?

Don't try to relight it. Submerge it completely in water for a couple of days to fully deactivate it, then dispose of it — or get in touch and we'll help you return it.
